01 Overview

Fire, Arson and Post-Blast Investigations Crime Scene Processing investigations are often influenced by dynamics uncommon to most general crimes. Fire and explosions can occur naturally, accidentally, or intentionally with criminal cases often focusing on political, religious, and complex financial motivations. The cases are difficult to prove leading to apprehension by investigators and prosecutors alike. In this 40-hour course students will learn on preparing and improving their skill-set in documenting and processing the scene, identifying, collecting, preserving evidence, and preparing them to testify in court on arson and post blast investigations.

• By the end of this 40-hour course, students should be able to:
• Understand the process of search and seizure at fire scenes along with fire scene safety.
• Establish a safe environment as well as scene boundaries and security.
• Know how to properly document scenes and the laws governing fire/explosion investigations
• Describe and demonstrate the legal process in regard to arson and post-blast investigations.
• Identify aspects of a crime that could be associated with fire, arson, or post-blast.
• Understand case preparations and trial concerns.
